Treatment For Diabetes

Treatment For Diabetes

This is a subject very close to my heart.

I have three family members who have type one diabetes and four who have type two diabetes so you could say I have a vested interest in the research they are doing on resveratrol and it’s links as a treatment for diabetes.

Current Research Findings

Resveratrol, is actively being tested in research laboratories around the world in hopes to find both prevention and relief for illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and as a treatment for diabetes.

Resveratrol has been linked to treating diabetes for some time now.

In 1999, research was published of a study showing that type two diabetic participants who drank two small glasses of red wine daily experienced significantly lowered incidences of the production of compounds associated with vascular damage, an interesting result for those studying diabetes.

Recent studies on mice have shown even low levels of resveratrol doses have improved their sensitivity to hormone insulin. It is hopeful these findings may contribute to the development of therapies for prevention and treating diabetes including type two diabetes.

Continuing research will no doubt confirm if resveratrol has benefits as a treatment for diabetes, for not only type two diabetes and diabetic vascular disease, but other insulin disorders.

The Sirtuins or SIRT1 Connection To Diabetes

Resveratrol activates a gene called SIRT1. We know SIRT1 [sirtuins] is linked to insulin secretion and also to better insulin sensitivity in mice. Additional research discovered a connection between SIRT1 and glucose metabolism.

Scientists have advised, insulin resistant disorders like diabetes, block normal activation of SIRT1, a factor resulting in the active study of SIRT1 activating compounds, of which resveratrol in certainly a front runner.

What this means is resveratrol activates sirtuins [SIRT1], a class of proteins thought to underlie the beneficial effects of calorie restriction. Studies in mice have provided remarkable evidence showing when sirtuins are activated by resveratrol, diabetes is improved. Sirtuin activators are currently being tested in humans as anti-diabetic compounds.

We are talking about preventing diabetes.

Needless to say ongoing investigation will be required before resveratrol supplementation can be responsibly approved for diabetes disorders, however these positive early findings have surely given significant initial results to warrant additional research for scientists and medical researchers alike in their quest for a treatment for diabetes.

The potential health benefits of resveratrol are certainly no longer a secret. The naturally occurring compound has been linked to a huge range of health benefits many of which are covered in this site including Cancer Alternatives , Arthritis Treatments , Heart Disease Prevention .

Type Two Diabetes Focus

There is a particular class of sirtuins located in the brain which controls and monitors our glucose metabolism which is also a key issue with diabetes.Scientists located at the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center conducted experiments and delivered resveratrol directly to the brains of mice.

The targeted sirtuins [SIRT1]were activated, and diabetic symptoms improved resulting in a reduction in high blood sugar and insulin levels.

This has all the hallmarks of being a groundbreaking discovery, because it specifically reveals the cause and effect process of resveratrol on a specific health problem.

Instead of taking an all encompassing vitamin supplement, drugs can be developed in the future that specifically target sirtuins in the brain for type two diabetes patients for example plus those who may be predisposed to the disease.

Findings of this kind may lead us to brand new strategies in the fight against type 2 diabetes. By knowing that the brain mediates resveratrol’s anti-diabetic actions, science will now focus on developing sirtuin activators directly target at the brain.

These drugs will more than likely improve treating diabetes without affecting the other organs in which activation of sirtuins may not always be beneficial.

A type two diabetes diet replaced by a simple drug or supplement is something we can most definitely look forward to in the very near future. A defined diet for diabetes may very well be a thing of the past.

Treatment of diabetes will no doubt change as we expand our research, on resveratrol in particular and preventing diabetes in the long term is not such a pipe dream.

There is no reason why anyone on a type two diabetes diet cannot start using resveratrol supplements immediately. The amazing thing is that there are so many other resveratrol benefits .

Many of these benefits are discussed within the content of this site including Anti Aging Treatment.
